Sony Ups The Ante - Films Streamed Directly To New Bravia LCD TVs
08 July 2008
There's a new service for owners with the latest LCD technology. Sony is now joining its entertainment wing with its electronics. A new plan beginning this fall will allow Sony's latest movies to be streamed to LCD televisions before the DVD is even released. All of their Bravia LCD models will be edible to receive the inaugural release, “Hancock.”
With any luck this won't be the only package deal. Sony was in a logical place to be the vanguard for the new technology as they can market their own movies. With any luck LCD televisions by Samsung and Panasonic will soon offer similar deals for movie delivery. Until then Sony will stand tall with a solid advantage over its competition.
This plan for streaming movies will also be helped by the PS3's online functions. The future ability to access movies through its interface will undoubtedly assist its growth.
It will certainly be an interesting addition to the way that movies are delivered. Sony's CEO, Sir Howard Stringer, made a previous attempt to send movies and other content directly to televisions. His program, Tele-TV, failed in the 1990s, but this is a new era. We'll have to wait and see whether his new plan will change the role of LCD TVs.
