The latest buzz is about a new style of "ultrathin" televisions. This proposed plan features a jumbo LCD model which has almost all of the major components in a convenient and separate box. These new models are expected to be released soon. The latest addition to this new market is Mitsubishi. The company revealed a prototype with a 40-inch screen which is only 40mm deep. The television is able to be so thin because all the big guts of the model are in a separate box that can be hidden. It will maintain the link via a wireless connection from the screen to the tuner. Mitsubishi didn't mention exactly what type of wireless technology they would use. One can guess that the proposed 30m range will utilize a type of Wireless HD or Wireless High-Definition Interface. Either would be able to provide an HDTV link. The only other information available is the price. The 1920 x 1080p prototype would cost ¥500,000, or £2,450. We'll have to wait though. It's only available in Japan for the time being. |
