The environmentalist movement should be pretty happy with Sharp's new announcement. They are preparing to release their most environmentally friendly model yet. It takes the form of a 26-inch LCD that will use only 25% of the power that similar CRT versions would use. This new model on display at the G8 summit is a hopeful statement for the future of LCD televisions. Their other demonstration was an innovative solar powered model of the same television. A solar generator roughly the size of the television is included with the TV and is fully connected to provide its power. This match up is just a prototype for now, but they hope it can catch on in a few previously untapped markets. Their eyes are really looking at the nearly 1.6 billion people who do not have immediate access to electricity. |
